What to Have in Your Refereeing Bag
- Notice to Players and USGA “Hard Card” (Hard card is on the back of the notice to players)
- Evacuation Plan (on the back of the Hole Location Sheet)
- Pace of Play Time Chart (“Raguzzi”)
- Pace of Play Policy (important to have the out of position definitions readily available)
- The full Rules of Golf and/or Official Guide or the USGA Rules app on phone
- Umbrella and rain gear (if needed)
- Snacks, water, coffee, etc.
- Watch, stopwatch, or phone for these functions
- Scoring device (if applicable)
- If working as a Rover, Rover box, including an air horn. You should always have air horn with you, regardless of weather, as non-weather-related situations can occur and require a suspension of play.
What to Have as Walking Match Referee
- Notice to Players and USGA “Hard Card” (hard card is on the back of the notice to players)
- Hole Location Sheet (evacuation plan on the back)
- Pace of Play Time Chart (“Raguzzi”), which will include the Referee with each match
- Scorecard (given out at the first tee by starter)
- Umbrella, rain gear or other weather gear, if needed
It can be helpful to use a yardage book cover to keep paperwork and the scorecard organized. It is not recommended to carry the full Rules of Golf or Official Guide given their size. When walking with a match, you want to have your hands free and not carry any unnecessary supplies. Rovers can help carry any additional supplies you may need (for example, extra clothing layers, umbrellas, etc.) to keep your hands free.
