Interactions

As a representative of the USGA, your interactions with club staff and members, players, spectators, USGA staff, and fellow Committee Members can leave a lasting impression. You are always expected to interact with all persons by maintaining high standards of ethical and moral conduct, consideration for the physical and emotional well-being of others, and the courtesy of treating all individuals with a sense of dignity, respect, and worth.

As a representative of the USGA, you will receive questions from players, spectators and the like while on-site. Take a customer service approach to these questions. Any questions that you are unsure of or are related to players or the conduct of the championship should be referred to the Rules Office, including POP/penalties, rulings, course set-up, green speed, weather decision, etc.

If there is an issue with the host club or club staff, it should be reported to USGA staff. Subsequent conversation with the club should come from USGA staff, not volunteers.

Always be cognizant of who you are talking to and your surroundings when relating to club, staff, championship, etc. If provided, review club staff personnel guide so you are familiar with club leadership.
